With a rich history beginning with the 1906 founding of the University of Indochina, Vietnam National University (VNU) stands as one of Vietnam’s oldest and most prestigious institutions. Over the years, it has undergone various transformations, evolving from the Vietnam National University established in 1945 to the University of Hanoi in 1956. Finally, in 1993, VNU assumed its current form, encompassing the former University of Hanoi and other leading universities in the capital city.

With outstanding progress, VNU continues to affirm its position among the global universities. VNU is composed of 7 universities, 5 affiliated schools, training and research centres, operating according to a special regulation promulgated by the Prime Minister with its Board of Presidents appointed by the Prime Minister.

Inheriting and promoting its strong endogenous potentials, VNU is steadily confirming its No.1 position in Vietnam and continuously enhancing its position among the world’s top 1,000 best universities according to the prestigious international rankings, Time Higher Education (THE). Many fields of VNU are featured in Top 500 best global universities by subject. Notably, VNU has recently been named in the group of 801-1,000 best global universities for the third consecutive time by QS.

Today, VNU occupies a unique position within Vietnam’s higher education landscape. As the nations largest and most comprehensive university and research center, it operates under a special regulation granted by the Prime Minister. This unique status allows VNU to collaborate directly with government ministries, agencies, and local authorities on matters related to its mission.

VNU University of Economics and Business (UEB) is a member of Vietnam National University . Before becoming a member university of VNU, the business unit went through many periods of historical change over the previous 30 years, starting as the Faculty of Political Economy of Hanoi University in 1974. UEB has consistently elevated the quality of education, research, and services, aiming to become a research-oriented university in economics, management, and business administration. Recognized for its rich history and commitment to international standards, UEB leads in transitioning to high-quality training programs aligned with societal demands.
